For as long as this city has existed, there have been two kinds of people: those who joined a faction, and those who grinded alone. If you wanted to belong to something bigger than yourself, you put on a uniform. If you didn’t, you drove out to a quarry, swung a pickaxe by yourself, sold what you dug to an NPC, and did it all again tomorrow. Alone.
That city is gone. Today, LightVille opens for business.
We are launching the single largest update in this server’s history: a complete, player-run economy built on Companies, a licensed commodity industry, and—for the first time ever—a working, in-character Government that steers it all. This is not a new shop. This is a new way to live in this city.
🔄 Out With the Old, In With the New
The old way was simple, and that was the problem. Every raw material in the game — every ore, every crop, every barrel of oil — could be dug, grown, refined, and crafted by one lonely player who never had to speak to another soul. You were an island. The economy was a vending machine.
That era is officially over.
From today, the raw wealth of LightVille flows through companies. The people who mine the iron are not the people who smelt it, who are not the people who forge it into a repair kit that keeps VESA’s bakkies on the road. Every link in that chain is a player. Every handshake is real. The economy no longer hums along on its own — it runs on you.
🏢 So What Is a Company?
A Company is not a corner store. It is a living organisation with a name, a hierarchy, a treasury, a warehouse, and a payroll. Think of the mining outfits, the farming co-ops, the oil refiners and the manufacturers that keep a real country moving — that is what you can now build and run.
Every company has a chain of command: an Owner at the top, then Directors, Managers, and Employees. The Owner runs the show from the Boss Desk — hiring, firing, promoting, setting wages, and managing the company’s money and stock. It is a genuine business you are responsible for.
And here is the important part: owning a company is heavy, but working for one is effortless.
💼 Getting Hired Takes Thirty Seconds
This is the headline for every player who has ever felt locked out of factions.
There is no application form. No minimum hours. No mandatory two-hour shift. You find a company, you get hired on the spot, and you are on the payroll and part of the team the same minute. If a company has “open hiring” switched on, you can even join it yourself with a single command — no boss required.
You get paid a weekly wage straight from the company’s earnings, protected by a government-set minimum wage so no owner can short-change you. And when the company sells well, you earn a share of the profits on top — the harder your company works, the fatter your payday. Belonging, without the burnout.
New player? Start here. Get hired by an Agriculture company. Food and drink are needed by every single player, every single day — it is the busiest, most welcoming corner of the whole economy, and the easiest place in LightVille to land your first job.
⛏️ The Commodity Economy: Licensed Industry
Every raw material and crafted good now belongs to one of three great industries, each split into three tiers — you gather, you refine, and you manufacture:
- Extractives, Smelting & Metallurgy — the heavy industry. Stone, iron, copper, gold, diamonds, and the steel, tools, and repair kits forged from them.
- Agriculture, Livestock & Food Processing — the beating heart of the hunger economy. Crops, livestock, fishing, and every meal and drink in the city.
- Refining, Distillation & Manufacturing — the finishers. Oil and fuel, fabric and clothing, phones and gadgets, medical supplies and more.
To gather, refine, or manufacture these commodities, your company needs the correct licence for that industry and tier — and if a recipe pulls from more than one industry, your company needs a licence for each of them. Licences are earned, paid for, and taken seriously. They are the backbone of the whole system.
Do the side jobs still pay? Absolutely. Bus driving, pole repair, and every other quick-cash side job are completely unchanged and open to everyone, licence or no licence. If you just want to earn a few Rand solo, nothing has changed for you. What’s new is that turning the earth into materials — the stuff the whole city is built from — is now the proud work of licensed companies and the people they employ.
🔗 Everything Is Connected Now
This is the part we are most proud of. The factions you rely on can no longer conjure their supplies out of thin air.
- FMD cannot stock a single medkit or bandage unless a manufacturing company produces them.
- VESA cannot hand out a repair kit unless a company has forged one.
When a company delivers goods to a faction, payment is drawn automatically and lands in the company treasury — real supply, real trade, real money moving between real players. And the flip side is just as real: if the mines go quiet and the factories fall silent, shortages happen. Prices climb. Medkits get scarce. The economy can boom, and the economy can hurt — and for the first time, that’s in your hands, not the server’s.
🏛️ A Government Is Born
An economy this big needs a referee. Today we also stand up LightVille’s first working in-character institution: the Department of Trade & Industry (DTI).
Led by an appointed Minister and their staff, the DTI holds the levers that keep the market fair and alive:
- Licensing — who may operate in each industry, and who may not.
- Quotas — how much of each commodity the country produces, keeping resources genuinely finite and valuable.
- The minimum wage — the floor that protects every worker in the city.
- Tax — a fair cut of trade that funds the state.
- Audits & enforcement — companies that underpay, dodge tax, or operate illegally face fines, suspension, and even total dissolution.
These are real players making real decisions with real consequences for the whole city. Politics, ambition, reputation, scandal — it all lives here now.
📜 Sunlight Is the Rule
Power without accountability is not the LightVille way. Every major decision the Government makes — every licence granted or refused, every quota set, every change to wages or tax, every audit result — is published, automatically and permanently, right here in the Government Gazette.
Nothing happens in the dark. If a Minister makes a call, the city sees it. Watch this space closely — it is about to get very busy.
🚗 Companies Own Things Too
A company is more than its people. Once it has money in the treasury, a company can buy and own its own vehicles and property — a fleet for the job, a headquarters for the crew to call home. These assets belong to the company, not to one person, so they stay put even when leadership changes hands. A company HQ is the natural gathering place for your roster — the clubhouse of your commercial empire.
🔮 The Road Ahead
This is a foundation, not a finish line. Already on the horizon:
- A dedicated Transport & Logistics industry, for the crews who move the nation’s goods.
- An Entertainment industry, for the clubs, events, and good times.
- And one day — when the market is ready — shares and a stock market, so you can own a piece of the companies you believe in.
The economy we switched on today was built from the very first line of code to grow into all of this.
🏁 LightVille Is Open for Business
So here is your invitation. Go and get hired — walk into a company and start earning today. Rise through the ranks — from Employee to Manager to Director. Or dream bigger: apply to found your own company, earn your licences, build an empire, and put your name on the side of a bakkie.
The mines are waiting. The fields are waiting. The city is waiting.
Go build something. 🏭
