Government Gazette: The Willowfield DMV is Now Open — Self-Service Vehicle System is Live!

Attention citizens and motorists of LightVille RP,

The keys are officially back in your hands. Today we're rolling out a complete overhaul of the vehicle system — and the headline is a big one: the Willowfield DMV is open again, and this time everything is self-service. No more standing around waiting for an officer to hand you a licence or bolt plates onto your car. You walk in, you get sorted, you drive. 🚗

🔄 Out With the Old, In With the New

Previously, getting on the road legally meant depending on someone else. You had to wait for an on-duty officer to manually grant your driver's licence, and you needed an officer to physically register your vehicle and install your number plates. If nobody was online — or nobody had the time — you were stuck on the pavement. It was slow, inconsistent, and a bottleneck for every new player just trying to get moving.

That era is officially over.

The Willowfield DMV now handles all of it on its own, around the clock. Licensing, registration, and number plates are fully automated and self-service — backed by a proper cost structure. Here's exactly how it all works.

🪪 Step 1 — Get Your Licence

Head to the DMV in Willowfield and sit the written driver's test yourself. There's no learner's stage — study the rules, pass the test, and you're issued a full Driver's Licence on the spot. Want to ride something bigger or get paid behind the wheel? You can test for extra classes:

  • Driver's Licence (Code B): the standard licence for cars and bakkies. Everyone starts here.
  • Code A: motorcycles.
  • Code C / EC: heavy vehicles and trucks for haulage work.
  • PDP: the Professional Driving Permit — required to get paid to drive, like taxi, trucking, or EMS.

The test questions come straight from the official Road Rules, so if you've read the code, you'll pass first try.

🚗 Step 2 — Register & Plate Your Vehicle

Buy a vehicle and it's automatically registered and plated in your name the moment it's yours — no officer required. Your registration (licence disc) stays valid for 30 days, after which it must be renewed at the DMV. The fee structure looks like this:

  • New registration: R250 + 2% of the vehicle's value.
  • Renewal (every 30 days): R150 + 1% of the vehicle's value.
  • Transfer (buying or selling used): R250 + 2% — the new owner must re-register the vehicle under their own name.

The percentage scales with your ride, so a humble bakkie stays cheap to run while that flashy import will cost you real money to keep road-legal every month. Let your disc lapse and you'll get a short 3-day grace window before it becomes a citable offence — so don't sleep on your renewals.

🔧 Keep It Roadworthy

Registration isn't the only thing SAPS will check. Your vehicle must also be roadworthy — that means keeping its health above 650/1000 and free of visibly broken parts like burst tyres or missing panels. Drop below that and you're driving illegally; get it patched up at KASI CUSTOMS to get back on the road.

Driving with no licence, an expired disc, an unroadworthy vehicle, or illegal mods will now earn you fines and AARTO demerit points — stack up 12 points and your licence is suspended. Leave those fines unpaid and a warrant lands on your name. Driving legal has never mattered more.

📖 Know the Road Before You Hit It

Every speed limit, every rule, and every fine is laid out in full on our brand-new GTAMO Road Rules page. Read it before you sit your test, and keep it bookmarked for when SAPS light you up. Study the code, pass the test, get your licence. 🏁

The Willowfield DMV is open. Go get legal — the road is waiting.
